The Amazon of Costa Rica
Reachable only by boat or small plane, Tortuguero is a maze of jungle canals on the Caribbean coast, often called the Amazon of Costa Rica. It is one of the planet’s most important sea turtle nesting sites and a haven of dense, dripping rainforest.

Best time to visit
July to October is peak green turtle nesting season. Wildlife on the canals is excellent year-round, and rain is part of the experience here.
Getting there
There are no roads in. We arrange a scenic drive plus a boat transfer through the canals, or a quick domestic flight from San José.
Travel tip
Pack light in a waterproof bag, bring insect repellent and binoculars, and expect to disconnect — connectivity is limited by design.
